Boomf’s CSR - Social Responsibility Program
Boomf’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program
Why have one?
There are many reasons, and these vary from company to company, but here are a few common denominators:
1. Social Responsibility - In today’s world, it is the responsibility of all of us to create a better living environment both for the future and for the present day. This is as true for corporate entities as it is for individuals – arguably more so, as a company is a deliberate creation with intent and one that inevitably leaves an environmental footprint. It is the responsibility of the company to be as environmentally efficient as possible.
2. Benefits - A CSR program has many benefits if it is well created and implemented responsibly. It is good PR and can be a brand-enhancer, but they are not the only benefits. The community at large benefits from the actions taken – either locally or globally – and such actions can also help raise awareness which in turn can spur further action by others – employees and customers – as a domino effect. Other benefits can also include reduced costs, increased efficiencies, and enhanced staff well-being amongst others.
3. Success - Deloitte’s third annual global survey covered over 2,000 C-suite executives at companies with societal impact goals. They demonstrated that the presence of a comprehensive CSR strategy directly correlated with greater success. They measured this by innovation, growth, and employee acquisition.
4. A Healthy Goal - A CSR program is not just a statement of policy, it is the outline of a journey. To this end, it can contribute to the development of both company and its employees, by stating goals to be worked towards and the route of growth required to achieve them. Setting and achieving goals not only stimulates growth but is a key contributor to the good mental health of those working towards them, including all employees.
Sustainability
Boomf’s Sustainability Policy is just one part of the company’s overall CSR Program, which is being developed over 2022 and beyond, and should be read in that context. It is, by the nature of where the business is currently at, a work in progress, and therefore subject to change as the company grows. It is perhaps best to read it as a starting point to move from where we are now, toward where we aim to be.
Our sustainability policy is a journey which we are undertaking; we recognise that it will not be fully achieved overnight, but we are committed to working on it every day.

Points to consider
The CSR program aims to define the social responsibility goals of the company and plot a path to achieving them.
The main points to consider are
◼ The program should be in line with the existing purpose of the company, complementing the aims of the company and enhancing them.
◼ It should have a positive impact on the well-being of all employees, both mentally and physically.
◼ It should also be to the benefit of customers, suppliers and investors.
◼ Where possible, it should have a positive impact on the community, both locally and globally.
Boomf Sustainability Policy
Introduction
Boomf is committed to practising and promoting sustainability. Concern for the environment and promoting a broader sustainability agenda are integral to both the company and the management of the organisation. We aim to follow and promote good sustainability practices, reduce the environmental impacts of all our activities and help our customers, employees, suppliers and business partners to do the same.
In brief, we aim to contribute to the environment more than we take out of it.
Definitions
Boomf’s Sustainability Policy is founded on the Brundtland Commission's definition of sustainable development:
"Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
and we also incorporate the Caring for the Earth principle of
“Improving the quality of all life while living within the carrying capacity of our supporting ecosystems”
What this means in practice is that we operate and manage the company in a way that enables all people we touch to realise their potential and improve their quality of life, while at the same time protecting and enhancing the earth’s resources.
We describe ourselves as aiming to be forest positive. Our definition of forest positive is
“Enabling the sustainable growth of more than one tree for each tree that we use”
This means creating a mechanism for describing the quantity of virgin paper and card that we use, replacing that use, adding to it, whilst tracking and reporting the whole process.
Principles and Practices
Principles
Our Sustainability Policy is based upon the following principles:
◼ To take the company from a position of forest neutrality to a position of being forest positive.
◼ To comply with, and exceed where practicable, all applicable legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
◼ To integrate sustainability considerations into all our business decisions.
◼ To ensure that all employees and investors are fully aware of our Sustainability Policy and are committed to implementing and improving it.
◼ To minimise the impact on sustainability of all office, production and transportation activities.
◼ To make customers and suppliers aware of our Sustainability Policy, and encourage them to adopt sound sustainable management practices.
◼ To review, annually report, and continually strive to improve our sustainability performance.
Practices
To meet our principles, Boomf will strive to:
◼ Always plant more:trees than we use. Whatever we take from the forest, for paper and card, we will replace and add additional resources. Specifically, we will plant one or more trees for every tree used in production, by the end of 2022.
◼ Create a system of quantifying our virgin paper footprint from across the business and zeroing out that impact; creating a tracking and reporting system for monitoring this progress.
◼ Ensure that we only use wood from verified sustainable sources, such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified sources.
◼ Creation of a carbon-neutral roadmap in 2022, to provide a plan to become carbon neutral by the end of 2025. In the meantime, make donations to seek to offset carbon emissions from current activities.
◼ Incorporate tree-gifting as a customer service as soon as it is viable to do so, no later than the end of 2022.
◼ Make available a copy of our Sustainability Policy to all our customers, suppliers and partners.
◼ Minimise our use of paper and other office consumables in the day-to-day running of the business.
◼ As far as possible arrange for the reuse or recycling of office waste, including paper, computer supplies and redundant equipment.
◼ Reduce the energy consumption of all equipment by purchasing energy-efficient equipment when upgrading or expanding, as well as running all equipment as efficiently as possible.
◼ Seek to always purchase electricity from a supplier committed to renewable energy.
◼ Seek to educate and inform our customers and suppliers through regular communications and the development of a supplier code of conduct.
◼ Investigate the viability of, and actively pursue if appropriate, ISO 14001 certification.
◼ Produce a public annual report on our sustainability journey, progress and achievements.
The Green Claims Code
The Green Claims Code, published by the Competition & Markets Authority, came into effect at the beginning of 2022. It demands that companies adopt six principles when promoting, or discussing their ‘green credentials’, or potentially face prosecution. Boomf fully supports and adheres to the Green Claims Code.
The Green Claims Code states that:
◼ Claims must be truthful and accurate.
◼ Claims must be clear and unambiguous.
◼ Claims must not omit or hide important relevant information.
◼ Comparisons must be fair and meaningful.
◼ Claims must consider the full life cycle of the product or service.
◼ Claims must be substantiated.
